The Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office will be hosting a Citizens Academy September 1 thru October 6. This one night per week class will expose citizens to how the Sheriff’s Office operates from the initial call for service all the way to how civil paperwork is handled. Attendees will get to see K-9 and RPSO SWAT demonstrations and see some of the equipment that is used in search and rescue operations as well as an overview of what the Rapides Area Drug Enforcement Unit does to combat narcotics trafficking in Rapides Parish. The Cenla Shriners Circus is Saturday & Sunday, September 12th & 13th at the Laborde Earles Coliseum. All in support of helping children in need. Showtimes are 10, 2 and 6:30 on Saturday, September 12th, 1 and 4 the afternoon of Sunday, September 13th. Tickets are $20 for 13 years old and up. 12 years and under are free with accompanying adult. A concert benefit for Back the Blue for Elijah is Saturday, September 12th at Alexandria Convention Hall located in Alexandria City Hall from 6pm until. Elijah is the 5 yr old son of Pineville Police Sgt. Holly Rodney and Alexandria Police Sgt. Thomas Rodney. Elijah has been diagnosed with a fatal disease called “Battens”.
